Das Naturschutzgebiet des Orta-Flusses, im Nationalpark der Majella, ist eines der schönsten und wildesten Gebiete der gesamten Abruzzen. Der Wasserfall der "Cisterna di Bolognano" ist ein wahres Naturspektakel. Der Weg in das Naturschutzgebiet führt zu einer 75 Meter hohen Felswand mit Blick auf den Fluss, wo sich die prähistorische "Grotta dei Piccioni" befindet. In der Grotte wurden Gegenstände aus dem Neolithikum bis zum Mittelalter gefunden, sowie ein Beerdigungsdenkmal und menschliche Überreste, die darauf hindeuten, dass die Höhle auch für Ritualopfer verwendet wurde.
The nature reserve of the Orta River, in the National Park of the Majella, is one of the most beautiful and wildest areas of the whole of Abruzzo. The waterfall of the "Cisterna di Bolognano" is a true natural spectacle. The path, in nature reserve, leads us to a 75 meter high rock wall overlooking the river where the prehistoric "Grotta dei Piccioni" is located. In the grotto, objects from the Neolithic period up to the Middle Ages were found, as well as a burial monument and human remains suggesting that the cave was also used for ritual sacrifices.
La Riserva Naturale della Valle del Fiume Orta, nel Parco Nazionale della Majella, è una delle zone più belle e selvagge dell'intero Abruzzo. La cascata della "Cisterna" è un vero spettacolo della natura. Il percorso, all'interno della riserva, ci guida su una parete rocciosa di 75 metri a picco sul fiume, dove si trova la preistorica "Grotta dei Piccioni". Nella Grotta sono stati trovati oggetti che vanno dal Neolitico all’Alto Medioevo, oltre ad un monumento funerario e resti umani che fanno ipotizzare che la grotta fosse utilizzata anche per sacrifici rituali.
